New Year’s Resolutions

2022 is quickly coming to an end. Can you believe it? Now is the time that many people reflect on the accomplishments or failures of this year and start making goals for next year. While it has become common practice to look down on “New Year’s Resolutions”, we think it’s still important to set goals for 2023.

The journey to a Blackbelt is a long road, that’s why it’s extremely important to set small goals along the way. Step one is showing up for class consistently. There is no other way to earn a Blackbelt, you have to show up for class and put in the work. We know how it goes, life gets busy, motivation goes down. That’s why it’s so important to continue to show up even when you don’t feel like it. You may regret not going, but you’ll never regret going.

The next step is to keep advancing in rank. Everyone starts as a white belt. By putting in the time and effort, you learn more and start to get better. When you hone in on those skills, you earn a higher rank until you eventually become a Blackbelt. The journey does not stop there, you keep going and become a second degree, third degree, and so on until you reach the rank of Master.

While advancing in ranks, you will learn new skills along the way. That may be performing tricks in elevated and inventive taekwondo, or learning how to use a weapon. You may compete in a tournament and win a medal, or even win a State or World Championship. There is always more to learn, more to achieve, a new goal to set. The possibilities in taekwondo training are endless.

The most important and best goal or resolution to set for yourself or your child this year is to grow as a person. At Mueller’s Martial Arts we teach the eight main life skills needed to succeed- focus, confidence, attitude, integrity, perseverance, goals, discipline, and respect. By learning and using these skills on a daily basis, you become a better person that has every opportunity to succeed in life.

What are your goals for 2023? Coming to taekwondo better be one of them! We will see you next year!
